You can access the Cartecay River upstream on Lower Cartecay Road and float for an hour trip, 2.5 miles, on the Cartecay River until you take out at the Blackberry Falls bridge at Blackberry Mountain off Mulkey Rd. in Ellijay. The location at Blackberry Falls offers easy in and out access to the Cartecay River.
During the summer months, when the Cartecay River may be low, tubing is a fun activity. Join tourists and local residents who enjoy a two - three hour float down the Cartecay River. Even when tubing, it is essential to wear a life vest.
Many recreational opportunities are available for whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking and tubing in the North Georgia Mountains. Of course, River Spirit, is on Mountaintown Creek so there is no need to go far from your vacation cabin for whitewater tubing and fun. However, if you desire to seek out other rivers, you won't have to go very far. We recommend an exciting rafting trip on the Ocoee River.

The Ocoee River, located in Tennessee, only 12 miles outside of Blue Ridge, was the site of the 1996 Olympics at the Ocoee Whitewater Center and continues to host numerous events, instruction, demonstrations and competitions. It's worth a stop to see all the action. Guided thrilling whitewater rafting trips and kayaking for the experienced on Class III and IV rapids are available and will give you a thrilling adventure ride, impressive scenery a possibly a cooling spray on a hot sultry summer day. The Toccoa River in Blue Ridge becomes the Ocoee River at the Tennessee state line. Water releases from the Tennessee Valley authority provide for rafting on the Ocoee River but water releases are limited to a summer season. Plan ahead to book your rafting trip on the Ocoee River.

The Nantahala River is another whitewater option with a 2 hour plus drive.
CHESTATEE AND ETOWAH RIVER
A short drive east to Dahlonega will take you to the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers for canoe, kayak and tubing trips with Appalachian Outfitters.

Access the Cartecay River upstream on Lower Cartecay Road and float for an hour long, 2.5 mile trip, on the Cartecay River until you take out at the Blackberry Falls covered bridge at Blackberry Mountain off Mulkey Rd. Approximate Driving Time to the Ocoee River: 40 minutes from Ellijay
Drive GA 515 North toward Blue Ridge, GA about 15 miles. In Blue Ridge at the McDonalds Intersection on Hwy 515, turn left onto GA 5 North. Go approximately 10 miles on Hwy 5 North into McCaysville, GA. Go through the red light, cross the river into Copperhill, TN and take a left at the 3-way stop onto TN 68 North. Take US 64 west to follow the Ocoee River. Ocoee Whitewater Center will be on your left.
The Ocoee Whitewater Center, located over the state line in Tennessee, only 12 miles from Blue Ridge, GA, was the location of the 1996 Summer Olympics canoe, kayak and slalom events. Just a short drive out of Blue Ridge, the Ocoee Whitewater Center is located on US 64 north of McCaysville. Visit the Ocoee Whitewater Visitor Center for exhibits, a small gift shop and special events. Walk over the Olympic bridge and enjoy the views. Trails for hiking on historic and nature are available. Talk leasurely walks along the walkways at the Ocoee Whitewater center, see native and medicinal plants and enjoy the Olympic spirit garden. Cool off and wade in clear, calm pools of water including Ole Blue Hole, a favorite of locals, formed by the rocks in the channel. Climb big boulders, soak in sparkling pools, sunbathe on the rocks. Have a picnic on a table under the cooling shade trees on the Ocoee River, or just enjoy the Ocoee River view and all the activities from the rocking chairs on the back deck at the Ocoee Whitewater Center.
